Stress and Coping

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be stressful for everyone. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children.
Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations. How you respond to the outbreak can depend on your background. If you are feeling stress such as fear and worry about your own health and the health of your loved ones, lower immune system, changes in sleep or eating patterns, difficulty sleeping or concentrating, worsening of chronic health problems, increased muscle problems, increased use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs….
Here is what you can do to reduce your stress levels
• Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol, and Nicotine.
• Indulge in Physical Activity.
• Get More Sleep.
• Follow Relaxation Techniques. (Hypnosis, Yoga, Reiki, Eft, Spa, Massages, etc.)
• Talk to Somebody.
• Watch comedy programms.
• Listen to soothing music.
• Connect with a pet.
• Take up a hobbie.
Take control, think positive. Use words such as “calm” “love” and “peace”. Or, you could think of a self-affirming mantra such as “I deserve calm in my life” or “Grant me serenity”. Focus on your chosen word or phrase. If you find your mind has wandered or you become aware of intrusive thoughts simply disregard them and return your focus to the chosen word or phrase. If you find yourself becoming tense again, silently repeat your word or phrase.
Coping with stress will make you stronger.
